Description

Author: William P. Young
paperback: 256 Pages

If you haven't already heard of this novel (and all the controversy surrounding it), then you've obviously been living under a rock! :) Steve's comments: It seems like everyone has an opinion on The Shack and that's as it should be. I think what scares preachers and theologians (me too, until I had an attack of sanity) is honestly not the theology of the book, but the God who is represented as kind, merciful, wise and gracious. If Papa had been a bit more angry, I think it would have passed muster. After reading the book, I found myself haunted by it in the same way a kind and gracious God has haunted me all my life. For that reason, we decided to offer the book to you. And it may be that, after reading this, you'll never look at God or your pain in the same way again...

Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, ostensibly from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever and quite possibly your own. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant, an honest wrestling with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?"
